February 2008 Dear Member The President myself and all on the committee hope you had a great Christmas and we wish you and your family the very best for the New Year. We also hope and pray that all those serving in Afghanistan return home safe to their families. As some of you know Sgt. Paul Billett at RHQ is leaving to take up a new post at Horse Guards and he sends his thanks to all, his replacement is L/Sgt Simon Hebson who takes over the post on the 1st February we wish them both luck in their new jobs. Memorial Day ( Black Weekend ) Will be held over the 09th - 11th May and as usual will be held at Wellington Barracks London, the service will be held in the Guards Chapel at 1400hrs with the March to Horse Guards after the service with tea and biscuits provided on the parade ground afterwards. Those who wish to attend for the weekend should get in touch with our Social Secretary Mr Mick Talbot on ( 01302 369635 ) The ladies are most welcome but you will have to book accommodation in London . Dress code for the Sgt's Mess is Lounge Suit or Regimental Blazer and ladies smart casual No jeans or short dresses please. This year the whole weekend will be in London due to the Regiment being on leave.
Coldstream Gazette I believe that the Gazette will be issued in April so all those wishing to purchase one please let me know by phone or letter as soon as possible please ( 01302 337135 or 69 Laurel Terrace Skellow Doncaster Yorks DN6 8HZ ) the cost's this year are £ 6.50 + £ 1.00 P+P. Please make cheque's payable to : T.C.G.A Doncaster Branch.
Association Day This year will be held at Victoria Barracks, Windsor on Saturday the 12th July it is hoped that we will be stopping overnight in Windsor in Bed and Breakfast, I will let you know the cost's involved as soon as I can but don't forget the branch pays for the transport' all those who wish to attend again please let Mick Talbot know by the end of May (latest) as we have to book all the accommodation and transport.
York Races The Coldstream Guards Association Cup will be run this year on the 31st May ( so expect your raffle tickets soon ? ) This is a great day out so if you have not yet been I can recommend it and don't forget that Association members receive a concession which is available through the York Ticket Office. A great day out for the whole family and friends. If you are taking friends or family please let me know and I will send you temporary membership cards for your guests to get the concession and to get into our private bar.
Annual Dinner This year will be held on Saturday the 26th of April at the usual venue The Le Bistro Restaurant in Doncaster seating at 6.30 for 7 the cost's are the same as last year £ 19.00 per person. We will be putting on live entertainment this year so all the older members can have a dance before the younger ones ? are let loose. We very much hope that you will support our Dinner as it is hoped that we will have several members from the Regiment attending.
Xmas Dance Due to the lack of support over the last couple of years it has been decided to cancel the evening dance but we are hoping to arrange an afternoon Christmas Dinner ( casual ) I will let you know the details as soon as I can but if you could let me know if you are interested I would be much obliged.
Founders Day Will be held on Thursday 5th June at the Royal Chelsea Hospital and seating is very limited four tickets only for the Association as a whole so if you wish to attend please let me know ASP.
Beating Retreat The massed bands of the Household Division will Beat Retreat on Horse Guards at 1900hrs on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th of June. The ticket prices are £ 12 and £ 10 ( all reserved seating ) and can be purchased from the Treasurer Household Division Funds, Horse Guards, Whitehall, London SW1A 2AX. Cheque's / Postal Orders made payable to Household Division Funds, Together with a stamped self addressed envelope. There will be a £1 extra charge for payment by credit card bookings ( 020 7839 5323 ) discounts are available please ask .
The Queens Birthday Parade Tickets The dates and costs for the Rehearsals and Parade are as follows A. Major Generals Review - Saturday 31st May - No Charge B. Colonels Review - Saturday 07th June - £ 10.00 C. Queens Birthday Parade - Saturday 14th June - £ 20.00 We are guaranteed two stand and two inner line of sentry tickets so anyone wishing to go then please let me know ASP and if there is more than one we will do as usual and draw for the tickets. Don't forget you can write directly to the Superintendent Clerk at Headquarters Household Division enclosing a self addressed and stamped envelope.
Easter Choral Concert The Choir of the Guards Chapel and the Household Division Musicians are presenting an Easter Choral Concert in the Guards Chapel on Wednesday 19th of March at 7.30pm Tickets cost £ 15.00 each and may be obtained by telephoning the credit card line on 020 7839 5323 between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
The Guards Chapel The Chapel is open to the public for visits during the week between 1000 and 1600hrs : and 1000 and 1500hrs on Fridays with services each Sunday ( entrance from Birdcage Walk ) you can check all times on 020 7414 3228 / 3229
Guards Museum If you are in London then please try and visit our museum as it need the support of all members and it is also a great place to visit
Tower of London The Ceremony of the keys takes place daily at 2200hrs. Anyone interested individual or in parties should write to HM Tower of London giving as much notice as possible. Between 40 50 visitors are admitted to watch the Ceremony each night.
Coldstream Reunion The Coldstream Reunion Dinner which is normally held in Doncaster, will this year be held at the Norbeck Castle Hotel in Blackpool on Friday the 26 27 28 of September the prices are Reunion Dinner only £ 27.00 Fri Sat ( 2 day package ) £ 114.00 Fri Sat Sun ( 3 day package ) £ 147.00 If you wish to attend then please contact Mr J E Dean, 69 Argyll Road , North Shore, Blackpool, Lancs FY2 9TH Tel : 01253 592171 if you need any more details please get in touch and I will help as much as I can. A one day package is not available at the moment.
Branch Ladies Day This year we are hoping to hold our ladies day at Doncaster Race Course on Ladies Day at the St Ledger Meeting which is held on Thursday the 11th September however this has to be discussed with the members before it can be confirmed. If there is any other suggestions for places to visit do please let me know.
DVD of Caterham Barracks A Mr Baker has approximately 15 minutes of DVD of a part rehearsal for the 1984 Queens Birthday Parade filmed in Caterham Barracks if you are interested in owning one Mr Bakers contact details are Mr Baker, 9 Heathway, Chaldon, Caterham, CR3 5DN
Appreciation I would like to thank all our members and friends who have contributed to the wristband appeal the parcels appeal and also the children's appeal I would like to give special thanks to our President Captain Warde-Norbury, Major Warde-Aldam, Sir Andrew Buchanan BT, Mr Alan Booth, Mr B Taylor, Mr & Mrs R Tranter and the Committee of the Carcroft Club for there outstanding contributions to our appeals Many Many Thanks. The Branch has raised for the wristband appeal so far £ 1325.00 We have sent two lots of parcels to our serving members one before Xmas and one in February. We have also sent over twenty parcels for the children in Afghanistan and are sending a considerable amount of clothing in the near future. So you can see the Branch can feel very proud of its achievements over the past few months. Don't forget our AGM will be held at the Royal British Legion at Edlington on Tuesday the 12th February at 7 for 7.30 and all are most welcome ( if you cannot make any meetings throughout the year this is the one to make ) Our monthly meetings are held at the same venue on the second Tuesday of each month at the same time.
